Review
Whispering Willows is a 2D side-scrolling horror adventure launching for the OUYA first.
You play young girl Elena who has to use her astral projection and other supernatural abilities to explore Willows mansion and its surrounding grounds and solve the puzzle about her missing father. The emotional story unfolds over five intriguing chapters. Elena is able to control light, freeze objects, manipulate time and fly though the air with her astral projection.
On your quest you meet different ghosts, each with its own story to tell. Helping them will help you to uncover the horrifying secrets of the Willows estate.
The puzzles in the short playable demo are not really hard so we can’t tell much about that at the moment, but the painterly visual style looks stunning. Which is – by the way – not surprising, since some of the people at Night Light Interactive already have worked for Lucas Arts, Disney Nickelodeon and others.
The music contributes a lot to the creepy atmosphere in the game. Just listen to five original game tracks by Steve Goldshein.
Conclusion
This is exactly the right horror adventure I like to play at night sitting on the couch, my shivering wife by my side. High cuddle factor! ;-)
Waiting for the next scary moment creeping the hell out of us, or at least out of my better half … what could be any better?
Let’s see how far they will be able to get us!
