Towerfall Ascension

These arrows hit the bull's-eye! All of 'Em!

The local multiplayer archery combat game is a serious time killer. When you start this game with up to 3 friends, just don’t have plans for the rest of the day. There is no leaving, no giving up! Make sure, your buddies are within reach for occasionally “haptic” murmurings like punches and kicks.

Towerfall CharactersChoose your avatar out of four characters, 2 girls and 2 guys. There are four game modes, including Headhunter and Team Deathmatch. The land of Towerfall offers 7 towers with 70 different single-screen arenas to compete in.

If your buddies are out of reach, or your children already in bed … don’t hesitate, there also are 21 singleplayer levels where you have to beat your own time.

If you still want more choice, you can customize your match with more than 20 different variants, such as: ‘No Treasures’, ‘Slow Motion’, ‘Free Aiming’.

There is no online play, at least not yet.

Right now the game is really meant to be played with friends in the same room.

The game tries to bring back those times of classic local multiplayers we had so much fun with. And it passes with flying colors!

There is no leveling up in the game, but the more time a player spends with it, the more new tactics he will discover. You can actually catch the arrows shot at you by other players or shoot the arrow shot at you. None of these tactics are explained within the game. The player just has to discover it on his own or pick it up from his opponents.

So many gadgets are to be found in the treasure chests: mirrors that make you partly invisible, protective bubbles wich save you getting hit once, wings to fly and so on.

At the first moment this platformer looks a bit simplistic, but the more time you spend with it the more depth of gameplay is unveiled.

The full game offers tons of options and tweak to customize your gameplay, but the best thing is, you don’t have to. Fire it up and win or loose.

UPDATE Towerfall Ascencion

Conclusion

For me, Towerfall is a real system-seller. Sure, $14,99 is not cheap. Actually it’s one of the most expensive games in the OUYA shop at the moment, but Towerfall is worth every penny. You can’t tell if you never played it, but there’s no way around that game, if you did.

So invite your buddies an tell them to bring their controllers. No matter if it’s a XBOX360, a PS3 or an OUYA one, Towerfall takes it all. :)

The OUYA team definitely should bundle this game with the retail version of the console. If you buy just one game for your Ouya and always have 2 or 3 buddies (or children, as I do) around, make it Towerfall. Serious, it’s so much fun!

If you already bought Towerfall before, the update to Ascension is free. Definitely worth it!
