Having balls of steels (and other magic material)
The Ball is THE best looking game on the OUYA so far.
The backstory is that you are a part of a dig team and you just fell down a huge hole and mysteriously survived that fall. Your team will be catching up with you later while you’re trying to find your way out of a huge tunnel system. Within only a few minutes you find a thing that looks like a gun but can be used as hammer or sort of a gravity gun on a gigantic magic ball that drops from the ceiling.
Your task is to find a way out, using only the ball and the “gun thing” to solve riddles and puzzles. In the beginning “The Ball” is nothing more but a great looking puzzle game. However, as soon as you start to relax, you will be caught off guard!
Didn’t you wonder who built the gun and the ball? It was an ancient civilization that worshiped the ball as an artifact and now you’re #1 on their “We’re gonna kill this dude”-list.
Prepare to get hunted by mummies, gigantic monster and extremely hostile dinosaurs!
Here’s a video of the first ~10 minutes of gameplay (no mummies)
Conclusion
The Ball brilliantly combines puzzle with action elements and adds a few sprinkles of horror!
The graphics are extremely good (not Crysis style, but hey you’re running a console with Tegra 3!) and I really loved being challenged from an action point of view as well as by having to think creatively to solve puzzles and avoid traps.
All I can say is: PLAY THIS GAME! One of the best games on OUYA so far. Thanks Tripwire, good job.
If you’re not convinced yet just watch the trailer.

I can hardly agree with you saying that this is the best looking game on OUYA. Even when this article was written this was not true.
The game looks like Half Life 1 – no – even worse! Low geometry, no details like flora, fauna or debris, lowres textures which are unfiltered most of the time, low framerate etc.
The game certainly looks great on PC… but NOT on OUYA! The screenshot and trailer in this article are from the PC version and the OUYA version compares nowhere near to that. For a true comparison see http://imgur.com/a/Qe8qE
Also you have to stay online all the time or you can neither load your game nor advance to the next level. This sucks!
Buy this game for PC but not for OUYA!
So that’s why something was bothering me xD I didn’t notice the flying torso effect until you point it out. Maybe there’s a Hobbit behind the ball?
Haha yeah it’s the subtle things that annoy the most 😉
There’s something I still haven’t gotten over: why are you so close to the ground? If you look at the the size of the gun that is picked up and your height when you walk around, I’d have to conclude that you are playing as a hovering torso (which I’ll admit sounds cool but it’s just weird).
Yeah that’s true. Guess it’s to make you feel smaller than you really are. Let’s ask the guys on Twitter 🙂
