Absolutely successful Revival of a Classic
Who among the “somewhat” older players do not know the alltime classic The Great Giana Sisters of 1987 by Time Warp Productions. The music was composed by Chris Hülsbeck who also contributed the music of the revival.
Black Forest Games, founded by the key members of the former Spellbound, took over all assets, including Giana Sisters DS from 2009 and changed the concept to a really unique platforming game. The designs changed from a stylized 2D art to a modern 3D modeled version.
On July 30, 2012 the studio started a very successfull Kickstarter campaign to be able to finish the game to the extent they wanted and release the game without a publisher.
Maria, the little sister of Giana is abducted to the Dream World. Giana has to enter this world to rescue her. As a teenager herself in transformation, she has learned to manipulate her dreams. She is able to transform herself into the “Punk” and back to “Cute”, to deal with the tasks of her search for her sister. Every time she transformes, the world around morphes smoothly from a colorful surreal world to a nightmare. What a cool effect! But it’s not only a nice effect, you have to consciously use it to be able to beat enemies, find secret passages and succeed within the various levels of the game.
The preview of Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams was written on March, 30th and is not to confuse with Giana Sisters, the successor of the mobile version of 2006 which is now in the OUYA store. There will be a separate review for this version soon.
With Twisted Dreams you get 3 distinctive worlds with 23 challenging levels. And … finally we get a game with really cool boss fights again.
It’s challenging in normal mode. Try “hardcore” if you dare!
