Walk ... Stop ... Turn ... Fire ...

The Art of Duelling in a beautiful Victorian setting! When I read, Lucky Frame ported its iPad hit Gentlemen! to the OUYA, I had to test it immediately. As it’s a local multiplayer for up-to 4 player I asked 2 of my kids to join me and play a few minutes before dinner. One and a half hours later our hunger (and my wife) reminded us of the dinner I had not even started to cook. ;)

The setting of Gentlemen! is easy. There aren’t as many game variations like in Towerfall, but the tactics become likewise hard as the duelists get to know their weapons and movements better and better.

The victorian background designs are amazing and I like the animations of the four dapper duelists as well. There are a bunch of cool weapons to choose from. You have to find them first, of course. Different knifes, bombs, dynamite, Tesla devices and pidgeons with explosives await you. Yes, trained pidgeons which follow your opponents and explode right in their face! What an evil idea! Each weapon has its advantage and its very own problem. My weapon of choice is the Tesla device, though. :) Getting a tactical advantage is to knowing your weapons well. Some kill at a distance, some need you to come really close others tend to kill you as well.

The duelists run, hop and flip gravity to avoid the deadly things bustling around everywhere. Most of the games fun actually comes down to knowing when to release the weapon you actually holding, to get the other gentlemen.

The duels take place in different, lovely designed scenes like Blue Gardens, High Street, Tunnel and more.

Conclusion

The OUYA version offers plenty different game types, like ‘Knife to meet you’, ‘Nikola vs Alfred’, ‘Genteel’ and many more.

With 3 or 4 players Gentlemen! is insanely funny and it’s hard to stop once you are in duel mode. Together with Towerfall, Bombsquad and Hidden in Plain Sight, Gentlemen! is now amongst the finalists of the ‘Best party game of the year’ competition. Worth every penny!

So get on your phone and bring 3 of your buddies into your livingroom and show them who has the real stones!
