Bombs away and you better don't miss

Multiplayer gaming is most of the times too complex and no fun at all. BombSquad is different.

BombSquad reminds me of Bomberman in a very good way. There have been many clones of Bomberman but BombSquad actually manages to add its own personality to it.

Basically you’re this little guy carrying bombs above your head and throwing them at enemies. Of course you can play against AI but this is only half the fun. The real fun starts when you hook up with up to 8 players and let your bombs fly.

You can play different game modes like capture the flag amongst others or just the regular “Onslaught” where the sole goal is to destroy every enemy.

These fresh game modes help to keep your fun up for a very long time.

Conclusion

A great game for some friendly multiplayer action.

Graphics look good and the entire package is just right. It doesn’t happen often that I’m giving the same amount of stars for fun and long-term fun. BombSquad has managed to get me to do that (and high ratings at that!).

Furthermore this game is being developed by just one guy. Just ONE! Brilliant dude if you asked me. He rightfully has his own IMDB entry: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2693348/ (he works at PIXAR).

Will keep playing BombSquad for a long time.

About Tim von Janssen

Tim has started playing PC Games at the tender age of 8 (ca.1990-1991) on monochrome screens and hasn’t stopped ever since. Due to that love for video games that has developed very early Tim also knows why older games very successful despite mediocre graphics. One simple reason: gameplay. Tim feels that with the development of the OUYA and the stronger focus on indie game studios is the right step towards better gaming experiences that rely more heavily on unique game concepts and better gameplay in general. TOTALLY agree with you here. This is one of the first OUYA games that I downloaded and we had SO much fun playing this over the weekend. The long-term fun is definitely there.

One of the first games I want to get once I get my hands on the OUYA tomorrow on BestBuy! I am still wondering if buying the 4 OUYA controllers would be worth it… Maybe just two, my friends have PS3 and XBOX controllers.

You know what… I’ve been trying to come up with a reasonable explanation for why the gfx only got a 7 and I couldn’t find one.

When we do the rating, all of our ratings are gut decisions. We play the game and we remember the predominant features during our reviews. On “The Ball” it was the great graphics and the puzzles, for instance.

For Bombsquad it absolutely was the fun we had with this game. The graphics could have been worse and we wouldn’t have minded. Therefore I think neither of us particularly remembered BombSquad for its really pretty graphics. That’s maybe the reason why we put the focus more on fun than on graphics.

I’ve adjusted my rating accordingly and I bet Thomas will do the same 😉
